Craters of the Moon National Monument is located about 18 miles south west of the town of Arco. It is a preserved area representing a massive lava field from flows that originated from the Great Rift approximately 15,000 years ago. President Calvin Coolidge used the 1906 Antiquities Act to proclaim Craters of the Moon National Monument "a weird and scenic landscape, peculiar to itself".
We stopped there on our way to the campground in Arco and took a quick peek and then the next day when we visited, we dodged rain and sketchy weather all day so the videos are a bit washed out. It's a very surreal place with one giant cinder cone providing a view covering dozens of miles (quesstimate on my part).
